Jenny Whiteside

Jenny is a self taught stone sculptor, working with a variety of stones including Italian marble, alabasters and soapstone. She also has recently enjoyed creating Bronze sculptures (which add another dimension to her sculptural works) as well as Life drawing and Painting to form an all round artistic practice.

Her work is predominantly figurative and often naive—graceful torsos and busts through to quirky anatomical snapshots and lately some abstracted forms have been creeping into her works.

Influenced by the old masters Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso and Canova as well as many Australian artists, including Brett Whitely, Arthur Boyd and John Percival, she has forged her own unique style.

Her sculptures are often sensual and extremely tactile, willing the viewer to touch.

She exhibits and sells her work at shows and galleries throughout Australia, participates in symposiums and conducts workshops in stone carving and recently spent time carving Carrara marble in her beloved Pietrasanta (Italy).

"I am a stone sculptor, a carver of stone.

Beginning with a boulder or an ordinary looking piece of stone, I am inspired and guided by the colour, texture, shape and size of the raw material.

My passion is to release the form that I see lying hidden within."
