Jena Zelezny
Now retired, I work full time as a painter and writer. I am interested in matters that involve climate change and the Anthropocene, particularly the impact of human activities on wild animals i.e., tourism, industry, hunting, circus, and the lucrative trade in animal parts. The current fascination with artificial intelligence, the Trump administration, equality and human rights are also of great concern to me as an artist.
Education
Jena Zelezny was awarded a doctorate in English and Theatre Studies from the University of Melbourne after having completed undergraduate work at the University of Sydney. The thesis treated sexuality in the early work of Bertolt Brecht using three plays to align Brecht’s techniques with the post-structuralist philosophy of Jacques Derrida and Judith Butler. Now a visual artist Jena also writes on film with focus on Lars Von Trier, Todd Field, Todd Haynes and Jane Campion.
