Jane Walker: A Retrospective

8 Feb 2024 – 19 Feb 2024
The family of the late Jane Walker invite you to attend a celebration of her remarkable career.

Elizabeth Jane Walker (1943–2022) was a Melbourne painter and children's book illustrator most notably known for her En plein air method blended with Chinese and Japanese ink influences gained through her extensive travel and study of calligraphy. Walker graduated with a Diploma in Art from RMIT in 1965 and during the nearly six-decade career that followed, she exhibited in over twenty-five solo exhibitions in Melbourne and regional Victoria, throughout Australia and overseas in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. She was a member of the Melbourne Society for Women Painters and Sculptors.

From 1969 until 1975 Walker produced illustrations for a range of reference books about life in Australia from the Oxford University Press. As married life played a more major role in her life, Walker worked with the Childrens' Book Council of Victoria, teaching classes and producing posters and marketing material.

Collections of Walker's work are with City of Port Phillip, BP Australia, St Kilda Civic Collection, Council of Adult Education, La Trobe University Collection, Coca Cola Australia, BTV 6, Ballarat and numerous private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and America.
