Ludmilla Meilerts was born in Latvia and studied at the Academy of Art Riga. In 1948 she came to Australia as a war refugee and shortly after exhibited with the Melbourne Independent Group. Her still life “Flowers” was acquired by the NGV in 1949. A series of solo exhibitions followed at the Georges Gallery, the Athenaeum and the Book Club Galleries Melbourne. Ludmilla was a long standing member and exhibitor with the VAS and the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.
