The Portrait Exhibition features the Nada Hunter award for $1000.
The judge for this exhibition is Liz Gridley. Gridley’s passion for oil painting has developed to include the use of contemporary surfaces. The reflective appeal of aluminium panels allow the viewer to influence the work by changing reflections visible through the transparent paint layers; this exchange of shadows across the paint surface allows the painted figure to occupy the space of the gallery with the viewer, rather than hide in the sealed, imagined ‘window’ of the canvas. The luminescent oils glow with the interplay of light and its reflection off the metal surface below. Gridley also paints on hardwood surfaces which juxtapose the yielding nature of the human body, with the unyielding wood.
The opening event for the VAS Portrait Exhibition is on Saturday 12 August from 4pm, following our annual Portrait Painters in Action Open Day.
CALL FOR ENTRIES
You can bring your artwork into the building for the VAS Portrait Exhibition on either Wednesday 9 August between 11am and 3pm or Thursday 10 August from 11am and before 2pm.
Members may submit up to 3 artworks or sculptures.
The entry fee is $10 per artwork and can be paid at reception or by using the online entry form here.
ONLINE GALLERY
You have the OPTION of entering work on our online gallery.
Click on the link to view the instructional video below showing you how to enter your art work online. Online entries must be uploaded to the online gallery by Tuesday 8 August.
Please note that this is a two step process. You must first upload your artwork to your profile, and then enter it into the exhibition. Simply uploading the work does not automatically enter it into the exhibition.
Remember to bring your artwork into the galleries if you enter the work online.

Online viewing for the VAS Portrait Exhibition will open on Monday 14 August with all artworks for sale.
