I am a professional composer with a career spanning 30 years, marked by collaborations with companies like the BBC, Disney, Mattel, UN and the TATE Modern. Alongside composing, I have a lifelong passion for drawing and painting, which deeply intertwines with my musical work. My art and music inform and enrich each other, creating a continuous interplay of creativity that keeps me inspired and energised.
My favoured medium is watercolour, with its unpredictability, fluidity and spontanaety. I am also deeply inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, a fascination that has led me to curate a personal collection.
One of the most integral aspects of my art practise is my love of plein-air painting. This approach allows me to immerse myself fully in the landscape, capturing its essence and energy directly onto paper. I enjoy exploring remote areas of national parks, where I hike, bike, and trail run, always with my painting kit in my backpack. This intimate connection with nature not only fuels my creativity but also provides a profound sense of peace and inspiration.
Recently, after a two-year creative sabbatical exploring Victorian and Tasmanian national parks, my wife and I relocated from Sydney to Melbourne. This move has opened up a new chapter for us, immersing us in Melbourne's arts scene and creative community while offering fresh inspiration for both my music and my plein-air painting.
