Hi, I’m Cate (Catherine Anne) a Melbourne based emerging artist - predominantly watercolour. Two years ago I retired from secondary school teaching to allow time for art. I initially focused on a coherent body of work for my first solo exhibition at Red Gallery, in 2023. My aim for 2024 has been ‘pushing the boundaries’ - learning new techniques and working with a variety of mediums.
Life has given me such a variety of opportunities, 'chapters' - from; freelance violinist living and working in Europe, wife, mother of four children (now young adults), Secondary School Teacher of VCE Music - Art & Conductor of productions and ensembles, and currently; artist, gardener, volunteer and general family organiser (which I love).
Through her work, Catherine creates a celebration of the intoxicating beauty and wonder of floral forms. Her masterful understanding of colour signifies keen observation and understanding of her subject, communicating a rich visual language.
Catherine takes inspiration from her love of gardening, time spent in nature and significant contemplative investigation into spirituality and self awareness. Her technical approach is informed by her extensive career as a professional violinist where creativity, beauty and soul are expressed through attention to detail, patience and dedication.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
