Carmel O'Connor

The practice of Painting is a serious lifelong adventure for me. Finalist 2002 Archibald Prize with a controversial 'Portrait of Professor Bernard Smith', in the pose of the Barberini Faun which is best understood in the context of the period as the NGA purchased 'After Cezanne' in 2001. You can view my painting on the AGNSW website.

Printmaking in particular The Linocut is part of my art practice. A highlight of my illustrations in this medium are twelve linocut images visible on the Terang Public Park and Lions Club Walk Track, Terang, Victoria.

My style of picture making relies on formal principles underpinned by design elements to produce imaginative, creative art works. These methods also support my facilitating of the The Darlington Art Group, Darlington situated in the Western District of Victoria

As the most recent Past President (2018-2019) of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors Inc., I look forward to exhibiting with many of those members who are also members of Victorian Artists’ Society Inc.,

My Painting mentors include Shirley Bourne 1924-2006 of Malvern Artists Society, Alf Watson of Niddrie Technical College., Geoff Dupree, John Hopkins and Andrew Sibley 1933-2016 of Monash Caulfield and Emeritus Professor Bernard Smith 1916-2011.
