Alla prima, or wet-in-wet oil painting, is the practice of completing an oil painting in one sitting rather than over multiple sessions. This intensive class is for those learners who are looking for the chance to hone their skills in colour, value, composition and concept by painting directly from observation over four 5-hour sessions.

In this class, targeted at painters with experience, you will work to complete a series of 4 alla prima works in oil. Each week will focus on a different subject, including:

- Still life

- Landscape/interior (weather-dependent)

- The figure

- Portraiture.

Over 20 hours, you will work with instructor Lucy Maddox to improve your alla prima oil painting skills. With a limited class size, you will gain valuable knowledge and continuous feedback in an intimate setting. Rather than working to complete a painting through multiple layers, the focus will instead be on painting in a quick and true-to-life fashion that emphasises form and atmosphere.

Please note that as an intensive this course is not suitable for beginners. For beginner-friendly oil painting, we recommend our Saturday classes.
