Shirley Bourne studied at the National Gallery School Melbourne and worked in Sir William Dargie’s studio. In 1952 after winning the Dora Wilson Travelling Scholarship Shirley studied for three years in Europe.
She was a member of Twenty Melbourne Painters and was recognised for her fine portraiture winning the Cato prize at the VAS in 1961. Her work is represented in regional galleries and the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
