Description

Explore the Indirect Method of painting with acrylic paint. When this method is done correctly the results are truly spectacular. Images appear three - dimensional and artworks pop!

The first few weeks of the term involves understanding tones and capturing light and dark leading into small studies on how to create a sophisticated finished underpainting, called a Grisaille. This will lead into exercises in some colour theory and the application of colour through glazing techniques to bring their underpainting studies to life with a very satisfying sculptural and virtual appearance.

Students will then undertake two projects. One using photo reference and one from life. Demonstrating their understanding of tone, composition and colour application using the indirect method.

Be advised, the Indirect Method is different to Alla Prima. It is a method layering that requires patience and commitment and is not recommended for people who wish to paint fast and unrestrained. This class is suitable for beginners to intermediate painters and also people who want to learn this truly effective technique.
