This term we will explore figurative portraiture, developing an understanding of the human form through drawing, colour and painting.
The first four weeks will focus on drawing and foundational exercises using photographic references, exploring the structure and proportions of the figure. Students will also investigate a little colour theory and learn how I approach building a figure on canvas.
In Weeks 5 and 6, we will work with a live model through a series of quick drawing and painting exercises, building confidence in observing and responding to the figure from life.
The final four weeks will focus on developing a finished painting from a second live model. Students will have the opportunity to bring together the skills and techniques explored throughout the term to create a resolved figurative work they can be proud of.

We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
