This term focuses on building a stronger understanding of colour in acrylic painting. Through a series of guided exercises, students will explore colour mixing, tone, and how colours interact with one another.
We will begin with tonal studies using a limited palette of ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and titanium white to explore light, dark, and warm and cool variations. Students will also investigate colour bias, learning why certain combinations produce vibrant results while others become muted. Additional sessions will explore mixing versus glazing colours, and creating tints while maintaining or reducing colour saturation.
In the second half of the term, students will apply these skills to a more developed painting project. Along the way we will also explore a variety of brush techniques, from soft blending and stippling to crisp and lost edges.
Suitable for beginners through to more experienced painters, this class offers a supportive environment to deepen your understanding of colour and painting.

We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
