Description

Learn how to make portrait or bust in clay, moving through a range of traditional sculpting methods. This course is perfect for 2D artists looking to try a 3D practice and experienced sculptors alike.

First, the class will learn from old masters by modelling clay heads after famous plaster models in the studio - Classical Greek & Renaissance. This exercise will give an opportunity to learn and to understand basics of sculpture and concept of space.

As you get familiar with three-dimensional form, spatial plans and material, we will progress into portrait after life. Apart from learning about human forms and basic sculpture qualities, the emphasis will be on developing an individual expression and style.

At the end of the course, you will transfer a two-dimensional image into full 3d sculpture. The choice of subject is yours. You can bring to life ancestors or loved ones from photography to bust, or relief.

All work will be modeled in clay, and how to make plaster "blind form" will be demonstrated.

The students do not need to complete any previous course. I am able to adjust my teaching to their individual level and apart from my tutoring, students will learn from each other in the group environment. On the last day students will learn how to prepare their sculpture for firing. Contacts for firing will be given and the students will have to organize firing themselves. Enjoy.
