Australia abounds with wonderful animals that are a joy to draw. This term we will look at pencil and colour pencil drawings of all things cute, small, and furry.
The first weeks of term will focus on graphite pencil drawing exploring fur techniques, anatomy, structure, and compositional tricks to create a realistic image of a small, unique, Australian animal from reference material supplied. Working with both dry graphite and water-soluble graphite pencils you will enjoy discovering the depth and realism you can create with the simple pencil.
Of course, you might dearly wish to draw that puppy or kitten of your own, and you will have the opportunity in the second half of the term when we work with colour pencil, subject matter is personal choice. Using the lessons you learned from the first half, you will expand this knowledge into colour theory, layering of colour pencil, background ideas and composition.
All works will be smaller format, no larger than A3 when framed. Your goal will be to create a frameable work suitable for the student’s exhibition later in the year – or just to hang with pride on your own wall!
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
