Born in China in 1946m Hong Fu arrived in Australia in 1990.
Between 1988 and 2022, he has 65 solo exhibitions in Australia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, Hong Kong and UK (London).

Hong won Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize in 2002 and was a finalist of the Archibald Prize 2008, 2009, 2021, 2022. His artwork was selected into Archie 100 exhibition in Art Gallery of NSW. He is the finalist of the Darling Portrait Prize 2022 and won the highly commended award. He is the finalist of the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 1996, 2010, 2014; finalist of the Dobell Prize of Drawing 2004.

Hong's art works have been collected widely around Australia and overseas, including the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra; the Government House of Victoria; Murdoch's family; Supreme Court of Victoria; CBUS Foundation; Crown Casino Melbourne; Newcastle University; University of West Australia; the CQ University; Stanthorp Regional Art Gallery QLD; Safti Military Institute of Singapore.
Hong has been invited to do portraits for celebrities, like Dame Elisabeth Murdoch; Dr. Joseph Brown; the Hon. Linda Dessau AC; Sir Charles Court; Sir James Gobbo.
