Graphite pencil is a versatile medium. While line is a wonderful thing, pencil has a very rich character that allows you to create shapes and form without delineating line work. We will use our graphite to focus on mass, translating this into shapes that are big, loose, and open at the beginning of the drawing and more compact and darker at the end. You will learn how to refine your drawing as you add more and more information to it in layers and in increasingly smaller areas to achieve tonal atmospheric drawing in a painterly style.
You will learn:
• How to plan a composition, working in large loose areas of light mass with limited line
• To create areas of tonal mass instead of outlining and ‘colouring in’.
• Intuitive perspective
• Use of blending stumps and erasers to sculpt your drawing.
• How to build up of dark and details little by little.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
